The process of getting re-elected is a long and most of the time, a difficult one.
I had accepted an invite to speak at the Farm Bureaus annual meeting and banquet a couple of months ago,
Now Senator Jones would rally support for a bill that would send lots of federal grant money to my state to help build industry and pump up it weakened economy.
I chose to back out because, that state could really use the money, reporters heard I was skipping out on the farm bureau function and ran a positive article in the states largest paper, applauding my decision to fight for funding.
Apparently a photographer has witnessed me taking a check from a well known industry lobbyist from my state, I denied allegations because scandals happen, some are good and some have a negative effect, this was not the case.
I have been asked to vote on a bill that increases income tax.
and is argued that a large portions of this money will go to my state and struggling states to help with social issues like unemployment, food stamps, and social security,
However many of my voters will see a higher income tax as a burden. I voted for the raise in the income tax, and it was a good decision, I preceded my vote with research and great use of the media to get my research results out, although this does not sound good, the constituents that will benefit from this won't be greatly affected by the higher taxes, because they fall in the lower tax bracket. And since my constituent base is more liberal, they in favor of taking care of those citizens in need.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) is pressuring the senate to propose a bill that would reverse the Brady Bill, Which requires background checks before buying guns. I chose to support this bill, and the NRA is applauding my willingness to support my constituents. Positive press came at a good time, to hear about my support for this bill, right before Election Day.
